The ocean is the largest body of water in the world. It is made of saltwater. The waters here are warmer
than much of the ocean on earth.
Location:
The Atlantic Ocean is the southeastern border of Georgia.
Wildlife:
Georgia's ocean has many different animals. Common game fish include shark, tarpon, king mackerel, sea trout,
redfish, flounder and whiting. The Gray's Reef National Marine Sactuary is a coral reef area with sea stars, sand dollars and
colorful fish like angelfish and butterflyfish. Sea turtles spend most of their lives in the ocean and are common off of Georgia's
coast.
What do people do there?
People visit the ocean for recreational fishing and dolphin viewing. Commercial fisherman collect
fish for food. Barges (large ships) use the ocean to carry goods to Georgia from all over the world.
